Now available, a quite extraordinary Audemars Piguet Jules Audemars Skeleton in white gold.

At just 31mm, this is Audemars Piguet at its most wonderfully understated. A remarkably thin white-gold case surrounds a deep black onyx chapter, interrupted only by the discreet AP signature at twelve. The onyx itself remains completely flawless, providing the perfect backdrop to the real spectacle at its centre: a completely skeletonised, manually-wound movement, intricately hand-engraved across its bridges and visible in all its glory from both the front and rear. The contrast between the almost architectural movement and the simplicity of the surrounding onyx is quite beautiful.

This particular configuration also appears to be exceptionally rare. Despite extensive searching, this remains the only example we have personally encountered or even seen pictured, making it an incredibly intriguing piece from Audemars Piguet's back catalogue. What makes this particular watch even more exciting is its preservation. It remains in quite remarkable, near new-old-stock condition, with wonderfully crisp case proportions and exceptionally deep hallmarks to the left-side lugs. The high-polished white-gold case bears some superficial hairlines throughout, consistent with light storage and handling over the years, whilst its original caseback sticker remains intact. Its black alligator strap appears unused and is finished with the original white-gold AP pin buckle. Even the handset has developed a subtle oxidation, adding just enough age to an otherwise astonishingly untouched watch.

Coming to us as a watch only and dating to the mid-1990s, it is one of those wonderfully obscure Audemars Piguet creations that reminds us just how broad the manufacture's output once was.
