Now available, a rather special F.P.Journe Élégante 48 in titanium, one of the most fascinating and unconventional watches to emerge from the manufacture.

The Élégante is a wonderful reminder that François-Paul Journe's approach to watchmaking extends far beyond traditional mechanical complications. Developed over eight years, its ingenious electromechanical calibre 1210 combines quartz precision with a genuinely remarkable approach to energy conservation. After approximately 35 minutes of inactivity, the hands stop moving whilst the movement continues keeping time. Pick the watch back up and the hands spring into action, travelling either clockwise or anticlockwise along the shortest route to display the exact current time, down to the second. It is an extraordinary little spectacle that never gets old.

Then there is the dial. Entirely luminous, its beautifully distinctive typography and unusual layout are instantly recognisable as F.P.Journe, with an exposed balance-shaped motion detector at four o'clock adding another wonderfully quirky detail. In darkness, the entire dial comes alive, glowing brilliantly against the titanium case.

Measuring 48mm diagonally, the Élégante wears considerably smaller than its dimensions might suggest, thanks to its beautifully curved, lightweight titanium case. Its distinctive tortue shape is wonderfully comfortable on the wrist, whilst the interchangeable rubber straps offer an almost endless variety of colour combinations. Few watches can change their personality quite so dramatically with a simple strap swap.

This 2020 example comes to us in exceptional overall condition, showing only light signs of wear throughout. It remains fully complete with its entirety of accessories from new and is accompanied by three straps, including the burgundy fitted here, alongside dark grey and yellow alternatives. A wonderfully playful yet technically brilliant creation from one of the most celebrated independent watchmakers. We absolutely love these.
