Now available, a beautiful Patek Philippe Aquanaut reference 5065/1A-001 in stainless steel, featuring the wonderfully desirable early tritium dial.

Introduced in the early years of the Aquanaut collection, the 5065 is affectionately known as the ‘Jumbo’, with its 38mm case offering a beautifully balanced alternative to the smaller 5066. For us, these early examples capture so much of what makes the original Aquanaut special, combining the unmistakable rounded octagonal case with a wonderfully understated, almost utilitarian character. The real attraction here is the dial. This example retains its original tritium dial, with hour markers that have aged to a particularly beautiful deep cream tone against the textured black surface. Although the hands are later Super-LumiNova replacements, the warmth of the original dial gives this watch a character that simply cannot be replicated on a modern example.

Dating to 1999, the exact production and sale dates are awaiting confirmation through its Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives, which has already been requested and will be included in the sale once received. Originally designated a /1A bracelet reference, this watch is presently fitted with the much-preferred Tropical rubber strap and stainless steel folding clasp, shown here in an especially handsome beige. Its original steel bracelet is not included, although a replacement can be purchased directly from Patek Philippe at the buyer’s request.

The case remains in exceptional overall condition, displaying just light signs of wear and retaining lovely thick proportions throughout. Accompanied by its original presentation box, with the Extract from the Archives to follow. An enormously charming early Aquanaut, with precisely the sort of dial ageing that makes these tritium examples so appealing to collectors.
