Amongst the most elusive creations from Journe, the Black Label collection is reserved for established F.P.Journe clients. Distinguished by its platinum cases and black dials, it offers a captivating take on the manufacture’s finest references. On the Optimum, the glossy black dial contrasts spectacularly with the silver registers and blued hands, creating a dramatic, unmistakably Journe aesthetic. The Chronomètre Optimum represents François-Paul Journe’s relentless pursuit of precision. Within its manually wound, 18-carat rose-gold calibre 1510 are twin mainspring barrels, a constant-force remontoir d’égalité and the remarkable EBHP escapement, designed to function without lubrication. The asymmetric dial displays hours and minutes, small seconds, a power-reserve indication and the remontoir’s one-second rhythm. Every element serves a purpose.

Turn the watch over, however, and the real theatre begins. The sapphire caseback reveals an astonishing landscape of rose-gold bridges, beautifully finished components and exposed mechanics. At its heart is the magnificent natural deadbeat seconds display, its hand advancing in precise one-second jumps rather than sweeping continuously. It is hypnotic to watch, revealing the ingenuity within this deceptively elegant watch.

This 2021 example remains in excellent overall condition, showing just light signs of wear throughout, and comes fully complete with its entirety of accessories from new.
