Now available, an exceptionally rare Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Mini reference 6012BA in yellow gold.

Measuring just 26mm across, the 6012 belongs to the earliest generation of miniature Royal Oaks, and this particular configuration is quite remarkable. Its defining feature is the beautifully executed factory diamond-set bezel, with 48 brilliant-cut diamonds set exclusively around the outer edge of the Royal Oak’s iconic octagonal form. This style of gem-setting is wonderfully characteristic of Audemars Piguet’s earliest diamond-set Royal Oaks, allowing the brushed surface of the bezel and its eight exposed screws to remain completely uninterrupted. The contrast between brushed yellow gold and that incredibly fine perimeter of diamonds is simply beautiful.

The dial is equally special. A matching gold-toned petite tapisserie surface is factory-set with twelve brilliant-cut diamond hour markers, accompanied by slender yellow-gold hands, wonderfully understated vintage Audemars Piguet typography and a desirable “Swiss” signature at 6 o’clock. Against the richness of the yellow-gold case and bracelet, the almost entirely monochromatic execution is broken only by the sparkle of the diamonds, creating one of the most elegant vintage Mini Royal Oaks we have encountered.

This particular example is exceptionally well preserved throughout, showing remarkably little evidence of wear. The case remains beautifully defined, its engravings and hallmarks remain deep and clearly visible, and the bracelet is particularly impressive, retaining tremendous strength and allowing the watch to stand up wonderfully when placed bracelet-down on a surface. Coming to us as a watch only, its combination of condition, unusual factory gem-setting and wonderfully period dial makes this an incredibly special little Royal Oak.
