Long before the arrival of the Collection Privée Cartier Paris, watches such as this represented some of Cartier's most elegant mechanical creations. This wonderfully preserved pre-CPCP Tonneau Cintrée combines its elongated, gently curved yellow gold case with a beautiful guilloché dial, traditional Roman numerals and the all-important "PARIS" signature proudly displayed across the lower section of the dial. Powered by a mechanical manual-winding movement, it possesses all the charm and refinement we associate with Cartier from this fascinating period.

Perhaps the most compelling aspect of the Tonneau Cintrée, however, is its value proposition. Offering much of the same elongated, curved presence on the wrist as the enormously desirable Tank Cintrée, it wears every bit as exquisitely yet remains available at a fraction of the price. For us, it represents tremendous value within the world of neo-vintage Cartier, and a wonderfully elegant alternative to some of the manufacture's considerably more expensive shaped watches. Equally at home beneath a shirt cuff or casualised on something more playful, it is simply a beautiful watch to wear.

Dating to circa 1990, this particular example remains in superb overall condition. Deep engravings and beautifully crisp hallmarks remain to the rear of the case, while the guilloché dial is remarkably flawless, something becoming increasingly difficult to find on Cartier watches of this age. Currently fitted to a navy blue Cartier alligator leather strap and its solid yellow gold Cartier-signed pin buckle, the combination is wonderfully understated and elegant. Offered as a watch only, one bespoke strap of the new owner's choosing will also be included with the purchase, allowing the watch to take on an entirely different personality if desired.
