Now available, an exceptionally rare Patek Philippe Nautilus reference 4700/1 in yellow gold.

Introduced in the early 1980s as the ladies' counterpart to the legendary reference 3700, the earliest 4700 references remained remarkably faithful to Gérald Genta's original design. Rather than simply shrinking the Nautilus, Patek Philippe created a true miniature version, retaining the same proportions, character, and unmistakable presence that made the model such an icon. Whilst later examples evolved into a noticeably different proposition with elongated bracelet links and a more polished aesthetic, this early execution remains, in our eyes, the most desirable. Today, with collectors increasingly embracing smaller watches, references such as this have never felt more relevant.

What truly sets this particular example apart, however, is its condition. The fully linked bracelet is simply exceptional, exhibiting virtually no stretch whatsoever and retaining the reassuring stiffness so rarely found on watches of this age. The case remains wonderfully thick and sharp, with existing hallmarks still visible to the rear, whilst the original Nautilus-signed folding clasp and elongated safety lock remain exactly as they should. The dial is equally impressive. Its original black Sigma dial features matching black date aperture, accented "Genève" signature, original tritium-filled hands, and beautifully restrained diamond-set hour markers. Combined, they create a wonderfully elegant and distinctly early Nautilus aesthetic. The subtle shimmer from the diamond markers provides just the right amount of occasion without ever overwhelming the design.

Accompanying the watch is its Extract from the Archives confirming manufacture in 1981 and subsequent sale in March 1982, alongside an impressive collection of documentation from Beyer Zürich, including previous service history and detailed photographic records. Further enhancing its appeal, the Extract confirms the watch's original configuration with its black ribbed diamond dial, exactly as it remains today. A truly outstanding early Nautilus and one of the finest examples of the reference we have encountered. With condition, originality, provenance, and charm all firmly on its side, it represents everything we look for in a collector-grade vintage Patek Philippe. The watch is available for viewing in London and purchase worldwide. Please get in touch for further information.
