Patek Philippe Gondolo
3733J
£27,500
Now available, a Patek Philippe Gondolo reference 3733 in yellow gold with flawless onyx dial.
Amongst the most elegant and understated dress watches produced by Patek Philippe during the late 1970s and early 1980s, the reference 3733 perfectly captures the manufacture’s mastery of refined rectangular watch design. Defined by its beautifully stepped Art-Deco case architecture, the watch wears with a remarkable presence despite its slim proportions, whilst remaining effortlessly elegant on the wrist.
The true highlight however is the flawless black onyx dial. Stone dials have always occupied a special place within the world of collecting, not only for their striking appearance but also due to the extremely high fail rate during production, with many cracking or fracturing before ever leaving the manufacture. As such, surviving examples in flawless condition are exceptionally rare. Here, the deep jet-black onyx paired with the warmth of the yellow gold case creates an incredibly rich and minimalist aesthetic, interrupted only by the delicate signature and elegant handset. Produced alongside the smaller reference 3633, the 3733 represents the larger variant of the series, and unquestionably the more substantial and versatile execution today.
Powering the watch is the manually wound calibre 215, one of the manufacture’s most dependable and enduring movements. Further enhancing the appeal of this particular example are the preserved hallmarks to the rear of the case, beautiful oxidation throughout the yellow gold surfaces, and its original solid gold pin buckle. Remarkably, this is currently the only example of this specific reference 3733 publicly available anywhere in the world.
Accompanied by its Extract from the Archives confirming manufacture in 1979 and subsequent sale in February of 1981, the watch is available for viewing in London and purchase worldwide. Please get in touch for further information.
