Now available, a Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar reference 5140R-001 - a quietly confident modern classic and the direct successor to the simply exquisite and historically important Patek Philippe reference 3940.

Introduced in 2006 and produced until circa 2016, the 5140 enjoyed roughly a decade in the catalogue - though the early 5140R-001 with this chocolate dial configuration had a notably shorter run, later superseded by the lighter opaline/white dial variant (dial code -011). In our view, the original chocolate dial is by far the more aesthetically compelling execution. Against the warm rose gold case, the rich brown sunburst backdrop creates extraordinary depth, whilst the crisp white printing and perfectly balanced perpetual calendar layout offer clarity and contrast in equal measure. It is a dial that feels both contemporary and unmistakably Patek.

The 5140 builds on the DNA of the 3940 - retaining the ultra-classical proportions, the beautifully restrained mid-sized case, and the legendary micro-rotor calibre 240 Q - yet refining the formula for modern wear. Slightly broader, more assertive lugs, a subtly more contemporary dial execution, and improved legibility make this reference a wonderful bridge between vintage sensibility and modern practicality.

This particular 2014 example has been meticulously preserved from new. The case remains unpolished, retaining its original lines and definition throughout. It is accompanied by its complete set, including its alternate solid rose gold case back, corrector pusher, full documentation, and its beautiful Patek Philippe winding box - especially fitting for an automatic perpetual calendar of this stature.
