Now available, an incredibly rare and little-seen Rolex GMT-Master II “Sea King”.

Produced as a special edition for ex-serving members of the Armed Forces who had a connection with the aircraft, the “Sea King” GMT-Master II was never made available to the general public. Only 123 examples were ever produced, with the first example rumoured to be in yellow gold, and the remaining being the stainless steel reference 116710LN. Commissioned by an ex-naval officer who wanted to celebrate the Sea King helicopter’s service in anti-submarine warfare and search and rescue missions, the limited edition run was produced to commemorate the retirement of the military aircraft. It represents an incredibly important part of modern Rolex, given the brand does not really ever create any limited edition runs, nor special orders.

Almost identical to the “normal” 116710LN, it is only when you look at the caseback or warranty card of this watch when its importance and collectibility becomes recognised. Its caseback is fully engraved, by the Rolex factory, and features an image of the Sea King helicopter along with accompanying text, part of which reads the division’s motto, “Fear God, Honour the King”, as well as its edition number.

An incredibly compelling piece for both Rolex and military collectors alike, it represents a rare instance of modern Rolex stepping into the realm of bespoke, low-production service watches, something more commonly associated with the brand’s vintage history. Additionally, a very cool feature of this particular example is in fact its edition number, being “007”, making the watch a must-have for any James Bond fanatics.

In exceptional overall condition, and most notably coming complete with its entirety of accessories from new, including a 2019 service from the manufacturer, the watch is available for viewing in London and purchase worldwide. Please get in touch for further information.
