Rolex Day-Date
18238
£42,500
Now available, an exceptionally rare and immensely special Rolex Day-Date reference 18238 in yellow gold, fitted with a flawless Lapis Lazuli diamond dial.
Hardstone dials such as Lapis Lazuli were produced in extremely limited quantities, owing both to the difficulty in sourcing suitable material and the inherent fragility of the stone itself. The manufacturing process resulted in an exceptionally high failure rate, particularly in the delicate sections surrounding the day aperture, meaning comparatively few examples ever left the factory - and fewer still survive today in flawless condition. This particular dial is nothing short of exceptional, entirely free from cracks or imperfections, and displaying remarkable natural character. The upper portion reveals a constellation of gold flecking within the stone, whilst the lower half presents a deeper, more uniform royal blue - creating a dial with extraordinary depth and individuality. The addition of factory diamond hour markers further elevates what is already one of the most desirable dial variants of the reference.
Equally impressive is the condition of the watch itself. The case remains exceptionally sharp throughout, with deep and crisp hallmarks still present across the lugs, whilst the fluted bezel retains its full definition. The bracelet is quite simply outstanding, showing absolutely no stretch whatsoever, and preserving the solid, reassuring feel these watches possessed when new. Completing the overall originality, the watch retains its original hands as well as its original caseback sticker.
Sold in Hong Kong in 1995 and accompanied by its original box and paperwork, the punched certificate confirms its original point of sale, whilst the inner clasp stamp dating to December 1995 further corroborates its production period. Fully complete and preserved in truly remarkable condition throughout, this represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most beautiful and increasingly scarce hardstone Day-Date configurations. The watch is available for viewing in London and purchase worldwide. Please get in touch for further information.
