Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar
5940J-001
£44,500
Now available, a Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar in yellow gold.
Launched in 2012, and as the successor to the reference 5040, the reference 5940 was a huge improvement on its predecessor, with an all-new tonneau-shaped case, almost television or cushion-shaped, which is hugely reminiscent of the glorious reference 5020. At 37mm, its monobloc constructed case hugs the wrist just perfectly, and at just 8.6mm thick, its incredible to think that the watch houses a self-winding perpetual calendar within.
Looking at its dial, it has an abundance of important features, most importantly in its raised yellow gold breguet numerals surrounding the dial. Within the perpetual calendar registers themselves, the watch boasts gorgeous art-deco style numerals for the 24-hour, leap year, and date indicators, which make for a addictive visual, and being an early example of the reference 5940, this particular example features a “SWISS” dial, as opposed to the later examples which showcase “SWISS MADE” at the 6 o’clock position.
In exceptional overall condition, and unpolished, the 2013 watch in question is an exquisite example. Coming with its entirety of paperwork from new, its box, and including its original serial-stamped solid yellow gold alternative case back, the watch is available for viewing in London and purchase worldwide.
