Now available, a rather special Patek Philippe Aquanaut reference 5065/1A-001 in stainless steel, manufactured in 2000.

The 5065 occupies something of a sweet spot within the early Aquanaut family. At 38mm, it sits neatly between the original 36mm reference 5060 and its similarly sized sibling, the 5066, whilst remaining noticeably more compact than the modern 40.8mm reference 5167. It is a wonderfully balanced size on the wrist, retaining all of the charm of the earliest Aquanauts whilst offering just that little more presence.

This particular watch was manufactured in 2000 and subsequently sold in 2001, making it a desirable tritium example. Its wonderfully preserved dial retains tritium luminous material across the hour markers, matched by the original tritium handset, giving the watch exactly the character we hope to find in an early Aquanaut.

The watch remains in very well-preserved condition throughout, with its case retaining thick, well-proportioned lines and showing only light signs of wear. Originally delivered on its stainless steel bracelet, as denoted by the /1A reference, it is shown here on a taupe-coloured Patek Philippe Tropical rubber strap and stainless steel deployant clasp. The combination completely changes its personality, softening the steel case and allowing the distinctive grenade-pattern dial to take centre stage. Better still, its original stainless steel bracelet remains with the watch, allowing it to be enjoyed in either configuration.

Perhaps most importantly, this is an exceptionally complete example, retaining its entirety of accessories from new alongside the original bracelet. For an early Aquanaut now over 25 years old, finding the right watch with the right specification and this level of completeness makes it particularly exciting.
